Planning a seminar or lecture for an International Audience

Starting point

As many more universities increase their offering of courses in English, also growing are your career opportunities and prospects for international travel.  This highly practical workshop will prepare participants for the challenge of teaching in English to students from Germany and across the globe.  During the two days, you will learn how to boost your impact in the classroom, discover and practice a range of facilitation methods and identify critical phrases in English to support you in your teaching.

Aim

  • Recognise your strengths as a presenter and increase confidence in leading a teaching session in English
  • Appreciate the influence of culture in teaching and learning
  • Develop phrases in English for key teaching scenarios
  • Discover how to structure lessons to allow for maximum understanding and retention

Content

  • Approaches to knowledge and learning in different cultures.
  • Using International English - advantages and limitations.
  • Lead discussions in English, handle challenging situations and encouraging students to participate.
  • Create suitable presentation and learning materials for an international audience.
  • Improve presentation skills and pronunciation with personal coaching & video-supported feedback.
  • Discover tools for planning teaching sessions in English. 

Methods

Pair and group work, discussions, individual and group presentations. Participants should come prepared with part of a lecture, a short presentation or teaching scenario they wish to practice and perfect. This will be video-taped and made available after the course. Max. number of participants: 15.
Course langugage: English.

NOTEThis course is for anyone who teaches or is planning to teach in English.
