Supervising in English II — From teacher who gives feedback to colleague in the scientific community

Starting Point
This workshop empowers teaching staff who supervise students’ Bachelors or Masters theses to become more reflective and confident in their professional practice. Participants reflect on their roles as supervisors, and how these change during long-term writing and supervising processes. Issues of professional identity are discussed. The specific role of constructive text feedback is highlighted. Likewise, the workshop offers tips, tricks, and practical support for making supervision more productive and goal-oriented. All these aspects can be transferred to ongoing supervision processes immediately.
Aim
By the end of day 2, participants have
- discussed changes of professional identity throughout writing and supervision processes,
- worked with different forms of constructive text feedback,
- applied practical strategies for being both text-oriented and aware of the social practice of writing
- started transferring workshop contents to ongoing supervision processes.
Content
- Practical tested strategies to make supervision more effective and efficient
- Working with formative and summative text feedback
- Changing professional identities and work relations during long-term supervision processes
- Professionalising ongoing supervision processes.

Notes
Lecturers and other teaching staff who supervise students writing Bachelors or Masters theses, or PhD dissertations in English, or will do so in the near future are welcome.
This workshop builds on the contents of Supervising in English I but can also be attended separately.

Requirements | Participants should have sound English language skills and advanced presentation competence. Participants please keep a laptop/PC with video and audio function or a webcam and headset ready. |
Completion | Assuming successful participation, you receive a certificate of attendance. |
Certificate | Applicable for TU certificate for teaching and learning or international certificate TiE-BAC |
