Starting Point

The timetable has been planned well and seems quite challenging as it stands. And still more additional tasks pop up or are added to make it a larger package. This may sound like your everyday university life: dynamic and stimulating - but also potentially stressful or even overwhelming.

In this training, we would like to support you in steering healthily through your everyday working life by consciously expressing a 'no' at the appropriate moment, which is also easy for others to hear and accept. An important prerequisite for this is that you yourself are able to understand why it is difficult for you to say 'no' in some situations and why it may sound more like a 'yes' or may not be heard at all.

Aim

Participation in this training will help you gain more clarity about your own belief systems and behaviour patterns that make it difficult for you to say 'no'. You will be able to develop strategies that support you in saying 'no' more clearly to yourself and to others.

Content

In this training you will be invited to reflect cognitive and communicative strategies to develop your authentic method of saying 'no' with more ease and effectiveness.

The following questions and content will guide you on this path:

  • Why saying 'yes' is sometimes so much easier,
  • how this 'mechanism' can be changed,
  • how saying 'no' can be prepared internally, and
  • how to communicate 'no' in a professional and relationship-building way.

Methods

Short theory inputs, varied group work with case discussions and practical exercises will enable a diverse learning experience that allows for fun and insightful learning.
Max. number of participants: 12

Notes

This course includes coaching components and serves professional self-awareness and self-development. Participation is on your own responsibility and requires normal mental resilience.

Student workers are welcome, subject to availability.

Requirements
Participants should have English language skills at least the B2 level.
Completion
Assuming successful participation, you receive a certificate of attendance.

Your binding participation is very important to us. On the one hand, our courses are connected with high costs. On the other hand, we plan much group work and work interactively with you. Hence, should you be unable to attend the entire course or should you be prevented from attending the course at all, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can allocate the place to other interested persons. In the event of multiple unexcused absence, we reserve the right to exclude you from further ZEWK courses.
