Brilliant project idea - successful proposal? Writing compelling project proposals
WWB-Area | Learning field
Research Management | Project planning | Basic
Starting Point
A good research idea does not automatically make a project proposal successful. Rather, a whole range of aspects of the proposal submission process determine whether a research project is funded or rejected. The better the applicants address these aspects, the better they can sell their ideas and set themselves apart from the mass of competing proposals.
Aim
Participants will receive sound guidance on how to write high quality proposals. You will learn about:
- basics of the German funding landscape for postdocs,
- planning and conceptual development,
- design and structure as well as
- presentational and linguistic peculiarities of research proposals.
Content
The course provides insights into key aspects of drafting and formulating proposals:
- criteria for a high-quality proposal,
- components and content,
- formal requirements and expectations of the contracting authority,
- attractiveness and marketing aspects, and a
- persuasive project summary.
Methods
Input, discussion, small-group exercises, developing case studies. Participants are welcome to bring questions from their own experience.
Max. number of participants: 15.
Notes
The course is primarily aimed at people with little or no previous knowledge. People with previous experience can systematize and deepen their knowledge.
Student workers are welcome, subject to availability. Please note that the focus is on funding lines for early postdoctoral researchers tough the overall logic is also applicable for scholarship applications in general.
