Free your research! Introduction to Open Access and OA services at TU Berlin

WWB-Area | Learning field

Science communication | cross section

Starting Point

Access to knowledge is key. Researchers specifically call for Open Access to scholarly publications, especially to guarantee access to everyone in the world. However, the road to Open Access might be winding: There are Open Access funds, services and infrastructures. There are Open Access guidelines, strategies and mandates. Legal aspects have to be taken into account. But in the end, Open Access is easy if you know how to navigate funds and services.

After your participation in this course you will feel more familiar with the basics of Open Access. You will have a deeper understanding of your rights as author and about the services offered to you as TU Berlin member.

In this course you will find the answers to the following questions:

    • What does Open Access mean and what benefits does it have?
    • What options do you have to publish Open Access?
    • How can you identify suitable journals and publishers?
    • How can you finance Open Access?
    • Which regulations regarding Open Access need to be taken into consideration?
    • What does Open Access self-archiving mean and how does it work?

Trainer input, group discussion, exchange of experiences in smaller groups, individual exercises.
          Max. number of participants: 30.
