Starting Point

As universities increasingly attract international students, not only is teaching conducted in English, but students are also expected to develop an authorial persona in English. This requires instructors be able to support students in their writing process, helping them develop a credible voice in their academic field of discourse.

This workshop offers participants both an understanding of the values that shape academic writing in English and tools to teach writing and help students realize these techniques in practice.

Aim

Participants will learn

• a process to help students overcome their fear of writing
• a productive framework for organizing any piece of writing
• techniques to resolve narrative flow difficulties and paragraph problems
• writing tasks that professors across the curriculum can adapt to their own fields

Methods

Online presentation, discussion, pair and small group work. Participants receive a work-along book as part of the workshop.Max number of participants: 16

Notes

This course should be helpful for any author, editor, or teacher engaged in English academic writing. To teach writing effectively, however, a proficiency level of at least B2+ is advised.
