Internationalising your teaching and module through online collaboration: rethinking learning outcomes and assessment

WWB-Area | Learning field

Teaching and Learning | Advanced teaching module

Starting Point

The backbone of this approach is the internationalisation of existing learning outcomes of a module, as well as the outcomes of the study programme as a whole. Aligning internationalised learning outcomes with assessment builds a strong basis for an international dimension that adds to the relevance of teaching and learning. One of the instruments to internationalise a module is including online international collaboration. This requires adapting learning outcomes and assessment, which is the focus of this workshop.

Aim

In this workshop, we will follow the approach of the Certificate of Quality of Internationalisation (CeQuInt), introduced by the European Consortium for Accreditation in 2015 (http://ecahe.eu/home/about/projects/cequint/).

    Content

The workshop consists of four sections. In the first, the participants briefly present their module on a poster. On these posters, the participants state the aims and ambitions they want to achieve through internationalisation. In the second section, we will focus on Virtual Exchange and Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) as a way to build an international dimension into existing modules.  The third section focuses on learning outcomes, intercultural learning and the alignment with assessment. The participants will work with constructive alignment in their own study programmes. They will receive input for a hands-on approach and will also exchange previous knowledge and experiences. Finally, in the fourth section we will discuss possible next steps for curriculum development and identify stakeholders and support systems for internationalisation of the curriculum within TU Berlin and beyond.

          Methods

Short lectures, single and group work, presentations, plenary discussion. Max. number of participants: 15.
